IntroductionSo you want to be a RingMaster? or maybe you already are? Here are a few tips for you.

Creating a ringGo to WebRing and locate the "Create" link. (It may be hard to spot on that overcrowded page, but you can find it!Then just follow the instructions from there. A few things you should notice first, though: - Make sure there isn't already a ring similar to the one you want to make. WebRing does allow competing rings, but it's not really good netiquette.
- You have to be registered at WebRing to bcome a ringmaster. (Don't worry, it's perfectly safe)
- You need to have a site for the ring yourself!

Setting the preferencesThere are lots of ways to customize your webring to your liking. You can choose how the banner and the hub page should look, how much work you want to leave to the automatics and so on and so on. Here's what I suggest:Sign in and go to the hub of your ring. In the management toolbar: - Click on "Manage Members"
- Check that these two are selected:
- "Auto-Management: Sites with broken navigation bar are automatically suspended and those with working navigation bar are automatically activated."
- "Auto-Management: PASS_L should NOT be considered as acceptable for being made active by the auto-management system. PASS_L should be treated as FAIL."
- Click on "join settings"
- Choose:
- "Send Yes, send me an announcement email when someone joins this Ring" and
- "Conditional When approving new applicants, make them active if their navigation code Passes, otherwise make them suspended."
This will make life much easier for you. The first setting tells WebRing to email you when somebody aplies for a ring membership, so you don't have to keep a watch yourself. The second one tells WebRing to wait until the webmaster has got his WebRing code upm, then automatically insert the site into the ring. - Click on "Navigation Code"
- Select the color scheme you like for the banner. You can also uplaod a webring logo for the banner here if you like.
- Click on "Ring Poll"
- Select "Yes! I'd like to survey the people surfing my Ring (either standard or custom)."
The other settings you can keep as default, or you could take a look at my Ring preferences page for more detailed tips.

Maintaining a ringIf you've made the changes to the preferences I suggested above, all you really need to do is take a look at sites that applies for ring membership and either reject or accept them. The system should take care of the rest.
