Introduction
BarFly is a free ABC based music notation program for the Macintosh. Unlike other ABC applications, BarFly is designed as an integrated environment, that is you can do everything with a single program, write the music, view it, play back and export it as midi, sound or graphics - even as a database.
BarFly doubles as a fairly decent word processor too, btw.One of the unique BarFly features are the macros, short simple pieces of text that tells the program how to play the music. There are two different types of macros:
- Stress programs - defines things like the accentuation of different notes in the bar, tempo and "swing" feel.
- Ornament macros - how ornaments are to be played.
I won't go into detail here. If you have BarFly, you can read the manual, if not, you're not interested in this.If you have a Macintosh and would like to try the program, you can download it at The BarFly Page.
