Introduction to ABC
What is ABC, you ask?Well, the short answer is: ABC is a system for notating music as plain text. The ABC notation can be converted into standard sheet music and/or midi files by special (often free) programs.
It's very handy on internet, since you can post the tunes at a message board, e mail them to friends and so on without having to worry about file formats and all that stuff.
ABC files are also very compact, so they don't take up much space on a web server.

ABC tunes
There used to be this huge, confusing list of ABC files here. In the end it got to messy to manage properly, so I had to find another way to do it.The ABC tunes are now integrated into The Sheet Music Archive. Find the tune you're looking for there, and click on the ABC link at the bottom of the music page.
