Open chords

Open Aa e' a' c#''A tuning given by Ludvig Mathias Lindeman for tune no. 548 in his collection of Norwegian traditional music.

      Special

Low Aa d' a' e''A tuning used by some Norwegian folk fiddlers.

Confusingly enough, the music for this tuning is usually written as if the fiddle was tuned in regular pitch so the notes on the fourth string is actually notated one note higher than they actually sound.

        Standard

        Standardg d' a' e''

          Other instruments

Violac g d' a'The violin can be tuned down and used as a miniature viola. Not really recommended but it works in an emergency.
