Ancient Egyptian instrument.

The sistrum (or seshsesh at it was originally called) consisted of a bent metal frame with a handle at one end and with three or four loose metal bar inserted. Often metal small discs were attached to the bars to produce extra rattle. The bars were often ornamented, either shaped like snakes or with goose heads at the ends.

The sistrum was a rattle used for religious rituals especially associated with the Goddess Hathor.
