The Renaissance Workshop

Introduction

I think I'd better mention this at once. The music in the renaissance workshop is written in "slightly original" notation. That is, I have modernized the note shapes and standarized the clefs, but I have kept the original note values, and I have not added any barlines! I have found that this makes it much easier to obtain the rhythmic freedom that this music must have to sound good!
Don't be afraid! It's not difficult to read the music. I have been very careful to compensate the lack of modern barlines with note spacing (have a look to see what I mean). As for the note values, just remember to count the half (or even whole) notes instead of the quarter notes!
Some of these pieces includes lyrics. That means they can be sung by a choir or a smaller vocal group. But most of them also sound very good with instruments - or with a combination of instruments and voices. I could write a lot about instrumentation and renaissance music, but that'll have to wait! For now: just play (or sing) the music and enjoy!
