Musica Viva: Information and help : What's new?

What's new?

Version 1 (Feb 2nd 1999 - Apr 24th 1999)

The early days of Musica Viva. I just happened to upload a couple of guitar pieces to my regular personal web site at SOL - the one that came with my internet subscription. Didn't have my own domain name or anything way back then.

This is not a complete list, btw. I had been running the site for a while before I even thought of adding a "What's new" page, so the oldest entries are reconstructions. Besides, I make minor changes almost every day, and I don't always bother updating this page.

23-03-99 to 24-04-99

Allthough this particular page has not been updated, there has been a lot of changes during this month. Most of it has been experimenting with different solutions for the Great Update, but I have also added a couple of new titles, and most of all, introduced The Free Sheet Music Directory.

22-03-99

Adding a couple of Gaspar Sanz-compositions in the classical guitar archive, and one Bach-piece for keyboard.
I've also done some reorganizing of the site, but hopefully you will not notice any difference because of that.

Less than a week since last update and here we go again!
Just adding The Choral Music Archive. I just couldn't wait until Sunday!
Oh yes! Three days ago I did a kind of unofficial update, adding an extra linkpage dedicated to music from anime (Japanese cartoons, if you didn't know). I'm going to gradually split the links into different categories. It's simply too many too keep them all on the same page.

It's geting better all the time...
From now on I'll make it a routine to update once a week. I make changes all the time, but it is simply  too much effort to upload new pages twice a day or more. So from now on: Sunday afternoon (GMT more or less) is the time when Musica Viva gets even better.
    Changes this week:
  • Two new sections (violin and chamber music).
  • Nine new titles (all in the new sections).
  • A few new links.
  • Some small, but important changes in the front page design.
  • A new adress again. There was no way around it. It turned out that the search engines had trouble reading the old one(!) which again meant that many people looking for free sheet music never got to hear about Musica Viva. They say that 80% of the netpeople use the major eight search engines to find their way. Well, this site managed to pass 250 visits on a single day (all pages included) during its second week of existence, while being registered only with half a search engine! And I still haven't got round to advertising the site properly. (The half search engine in question, by the way, was Alta Vista, which behaved rather strangely concerning Musica Viva, but actually did list the site now and then)

07-03-99

I have finally managed to get through all the sites on the links-page. Of course, in the meantime I have stumbled over lots of other sites that should have been there. This work never ends it seems.
I have also started to add advertisements on the pages. Read this before you condemn me for it!

05-03-99

I keep on revising the link-site. I'm more than halfway through the list now. I've also found some more interesting links, but I won't post them before I've finished checking those I already have. I also think I've found out why so many sheet music-sites are unfriendly towards us poor ones who can't afford to buy a new computer every other year. It turns out there's a banneradvertisement-company called "Music HyperBanner" who are responsible for at least a few of the crashes. Thanks to Leslie Wagle for helping me sort this out.

04-03-99

Did I promise to update every week? It seems more like every day! Well, new today is a (still small) collection of music for piano.

03-03-99

I'm spending most of my time trying to find out how to get people to find this site, so I haven't been able to update it for a week. Hopefully I can start with the fun thing (adding more music) next week. We'll see.

I have managed a partial update to the links page, though. You won't believe how many sites with free sheet music there is out there!

27-02-99

  • Added the search function from FreeFind.
  • Added the Recommend-it-function.
  • Rewrote the opening page.

25-02-99

Added some auxillary pages (like this one).

24-02-99

Seems I didn't quite get finished yesterday. Added 90 more pieces, bringing the total up to 238. Unfortunately, this meant that my serverspace was full, so it'll take some time before I can add more music.

23-02-99

The real beginning. 148 titles.

06-02-99

Added some Fernando Sor-pieces - and messed up the encoding completely.

02-02-99

The first prototype, containing a few pieces by Diabelli and Carcassi.
