IntroductionNon-copyrighted music originally written for melodic percussion is hard to find, but here are a couple of arrangements of classical and traditional pieces I think are suitable. Most of these piece have not been tested out in real life so they may be a few instances of arrangements being unnecessarily difficult to play. If you have any suuestions how to improve some of the arrangements in that respect, please don't hesitate to contact me!InstrumentsSome of the titles have a note range that requires the marimba, but most of them work equally well on xylophone or vibraphone as well. For other instruments, such as the glockenspiel, have a look and see what you can find that's suitable!More musicThe Musica Viva Melodic Percussion Archive only includes arrangements specifically written for the marimba, xylophone and/or vibraphone as a solo instrument. Most of the time a melodic percussion instrument will simply play the tune with no special arrengement needed. In addition to what's listed here, you can also find lots of suitable music at the other sections of Musica Viva, such as The Flute Archive, The Violin Archive and The Tune Book. For ensemble music suitable for a wide variety of instruments, including melodic percussion, take a look at The Common Room and for music for some other solo instrument accompanied by melodic percussion, you should look in the archive for that other instrument.A special tip for marimba players btw: Skip over to The Classical Guitar Archive and see if you can find something interesting there too. Many professional and semi-professional percussionists like to play classical guitar pieces on the marimba. The range of the two instruments are roughly the same, the notation styles are very similar and much of the guitar repertoire sound really nice on the marimba. And remember to tell me if you find anything really interesting there! CreditsThanks to Rolf Lennart Stensø for valuable advice and information. Without his help, there wouldn't have been a Melodic Percussion Archive at Musica Viva!Back to top Search the archiveBack to top Printed musicAs big as Musica Viva is, you still can't find everything here. There's the problem with copyright on modern music for a start, and no web server on earth is big enough to store all music ever written. ;-)Besides, there is something about a properly published sheet music book that computer printouts simply never can have.
