Macabc2chord

Introduction

Macabc2chord is a perl script that extracts chord symbols from an ABC file. The original abc2chord script was written by Anselm Lingnau and modified by Robert Bley-Vroman with some minor help from me. It's a fairly straight-forward script with some really nice GREP patterns (mainly thanks to Robert).

Macintosh

Macabc2chord.pl is a MacPerl droplet that extracts chords symbols from an ABC file. It requires MacPerl to run. Go to http://macperl.org/depts/getmp.html if you don't already have that program on your Macintosh.
Using Macabc2chord is extremely simple. Just put the file Macabc2chord.pl anywhere you like and drag and drop ABC files onto it. The script will then produce a text file called "chords.abc" that you can save where you like.

Other computers

The script presented here contains input and output routines specifically for the Macintosh. These have to be modified before the script will work on Windows and Unix/Linux computers, but that shouldn't be too difficult for anybody who knows basic perl scripting.
