Der Fluyten Lust-hof no. 18
Jacob van Eyck
Jacob van Eyck was a blind recorder who was employed by a church in Utrecht to entertain the congergation by playing in from the church tower every Sunday after mass. "Der Fluyten Lust-hof" was published in 1654 and included a large number of the pieces he used to play. Most of the book contains improvisations over hymns and tunes popular at that time. Van Eyck played the recorder himself, but his music sounds well on most any instrument.
Here I've transposed the music down an octave and a fourth to fit the range of the trombone or the double bass. There's an even lower bass clef version at The Cello Archive while the music in its original key (and in treble clef) can be found at The Recorder Archive.
